Nursing Students

Our next hiring cycle will be for Winter 2025. Applications will open on October 1, 2024.

Houston Methodist Advancement into Professional Practice (MAPP)

Houston Methodist Hospital is pleased to offer baccalaureate nursing students the opportunity to enhance their learning and understanding of their chosen profession through an internship in our Houston Methodist Advancement into Professional Practice (MAPP) Program.

The MAPP Program pairs accepted interns with registered nurses in our clinical environment. MAPP interns work side by side with nurses performing daily assessments, practicing nursing skills, and learning the nursing process.

There are two tracks to the MAPP program- year-round and summer. The year-round program, available in the Texas Medical Center (accepting interns January and August) and at Houston Methodist The Woodlands, accepts interns in August only.

The Summer track is offered exclusively at our Texas Medical Center campus. This track is designed specifically for students attending school greater than 50 miles from our Texas Medical Center campus.

Work Environment

The MAPP program is a paid internship with interns working in various departments within Houston Methodist. Clinical environments may include intermediate care/intensive care units, Women’s Services, Emergency Department, Perioperative Services, Transplant Medicine, Cardiology, Neurology, and General Medicine.

The assimilation into the health care setting will prove invaluable to interns as they begin their nursing careers. Individuals who successfully complete the MAPP program will be better prepared to succeed and meet the demands facing tomorrow's nurses.

Benefits

For participating in the program, MAPP interns can expect:

  • Paid internship with shift differentials
  • Year-Round interns work 24 hours per month
  • Summer interns work up to 40 hours per week
  • Housing assistance – (Summer track only)
  • Unlimited voluntary participation in Houston Methodist Hospital educational opportunities (unpaid)
  • Discount tickets to local and regional special events

Upon completion of the MAPP program, student interns in their last semester of nursing school will have the opportunity to interview for a full-time, paid position within Houston Methodist Nurse Residency Program.

As a part of the Houston Methodist nursing team, MAPP interns will also have access to the rich educational opportunities at Houston Methodist Hospital including:

  • Online programs
  • Nursing grand rounds
  • Continuing education opportunities
  • Professional development
  • Extended clinical opportunities such as working with nurse practitioners, clinical educators and members of the interdisciplinary team
  • Rotation of up to three units of interest (Summer track only)
