Cash Handler - Full Time/Evenings

At Houston Methodist, the Cash Handler position is responsible for maintaining financial controls for retail food operational area revenue. This position gathers, coordinates, prepares and maintains weekly cost analyses for retail and corporate-related food services in accordance with procedures defined by management. The Cash Handler position manages cash and other forms of payment transactions and receipts in high volume. This position ensures cash handling procedures are followed and conducts audits, in conjunction with management. The Cash Handler position works closely with the Cashiers conducting training, assists management with schedules and facilitates daily breaks for the employees. This position operates the Point of Sale (POS) system and works as a Cashier during busy periods, covering as needed. The position also helps monitor basic food handling duties such as recording refrigeration temperatures, monitors pricing, makes signage and assists by checking front of house colleagues out from their shifts.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS - REQUIRED

• Certified Food Manager

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations

• Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security

• Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles

• Capable of using simple math and operating a 10-key calculator

• Ability to add and subtract multiple digit numbers, multiply and divide

• Ability to perform operations using U.S. currency and weight measurement, volume, and distance with a knowledge of metric weights and volume

• Ability to deal with and manipulate financial data

• Ability to carry out complex or multi step instructions, exactly as written

• Ability to deal with complex or emotionally charged situations with many variables

• Knowledge to comply with the local Food Ordinances

• Strong clerical and organizational skills as demonstrated by work experience or formal training

• Familiarity with basic computer operations

• Demonstrates excellent cash handling skills
