At Houston Methodist, the Research COI Analyst position is responsible for supporting Conflict of Interest (COI) and Responsible Conduct of Research functions within the Office of Research Integrity (ORI) in the Office of Research Protections (ORP), assuring timely review of research-related activities and relationships, and management of research-related conflicts of interest in compliance with regulations and policies. As a member of the Office of Research Integrity, this position will support institutional export control efforts, ensure transparency in and management of international relationships consistent with the current federal research regulatory landscape, and participate in training and compliance efforts in these areas. The Research COI Analyst position will also take an active role in the day-to-day operations of the research enterprise, collaborating with and performing administrative functions in support of various stakeholders across the Academic Institute (AI) and the Houston Methodist (HM).
Requirements:
- Collaborates with the Director of Research Integrity in communicating with stakeholders on COI documentation and management, disclosure reporting, and other related compliance activities.
- Serves as a first point-of-contact for covered investigators seeking assistance in performing disclosures or COI-related policy guidance. Distributes reminders, instructions, and other materials in preparation for annual disclosure cycles.
- Serves as a point-of-contact for investigators seeking consultation on research integrity-related matters, work together with faculty and staff to institute a culture for the responsible conduct of research.
- Assists system administrators and compliance officials throughout HMRI in routine data management, reporting, and maintenance, and other activities, as necessary.
- Initiates contributions towards improvement of department scores for employee engagement, i.e., peer-to-peer accountability.
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Partners with the Director in developing and delivering internal educational programs related to Conflicts of Interest (COI) and disclosure requirements, as well as Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR).
- Schedules, prepares agenda and materials, draft meeting minutes, determination memos and management plans as applicable for the Research Institute Business Practice Committee or Research Integrity Committee.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs routine processing and review of submitted disclosures, obtaining additional information from covered individuals when necessary and referring disclosures requiring additional review or management to the institutional COI official and the RI Business Practice Committee, as applicable.
- Assists the Director and other internal stakeholders with routine auditing activities involving publications, foreign relationships and components, export control compliance data archival and availability, funded projects, and disclosure accuracy.

- Works in an efficient and cost-conscious manner, identifying potential cost-saving opportunities. Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks, assisting coworkers as needed.

- Assists with the management and evaluation of faculty start-ups and conflicts of interest related to licensed technology and other intellectual property.
- Seeks opportunities to identify self-development needs and takes appropriate action. Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management. Completes and updates the My Development Plan on an on-going basis.
