The Neuropsychology Section and Houston Methodist Concussion Center within the Houston Methodist Neurological Institute and the Stanley H. Appel Department of Neurology is seeking an adult neuropsychologist to join our expanding clinical service in the Texas Medical Center.
This is primarily a clinical outpatient position with some clinical inpatient work. Expanding or developing a research program is highly encouraged with internal support available. Academic rank through Weill Cornell Medical School and Houston Methodist Academic Institute are commensurate with experience.
The successful candidate will be responsible for neuropsychological assessments and feedback visits for a wide variety of neurologic, medical, and psychiatric conditions that include dementia, neuromuscular disorders, multiple sclerosis, stroke, normal pressure hydrocephalus, epilepsy, movement disorders, and traumatic brain injury (with an emphasis in sports concussion). We use a psychometrist and student-testing model. The position requires strong clinical skills as well as excellent written and spoken communication skills as part of a multidisciplinary team. Candidates who are fluent in Spanish or other languages are strongly encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates with interest or experience in sports-related concussion. We also consult for multiple professional, collegiate, and high school athletic programs and have a robust in-state tele-concussion program.
Requirements:
- D./Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology.
- Successful completion of a formal post-doctoral training program in Clinical Neuropsychology.
- Licensed/license eligible in Texas and board eligible or board certified (ABCN or ABN).

Requirements:
PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs clinical interviews, conducts diagnostic assessments and scores neuropsychological tests and writing reports to consider all variables that may impact treatment plans and outcomes for patients.
- Provides feedback to patients and family members regarding treatments and interventions.
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Participates in case conferences with referring physicians and interprofessional care coordination meetings at the request of providers, patients, families or staff.
- Oversees neuropsychological evaluations and assessments and helps create a standardized level of care with interprofessional health care team.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Delivers neuropsychological treatment to patients in the brain injury or neuro-cognitive program.
- Responsible for timely documentation and communication to all members of the interprofessional care team.
- Reports all accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Participates in business development activities to establish referral pipelines.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Helps to establish new clinical care models and treatment programs specific to brain injury or neuro-cognitive deficits.
- Maintains an awareness of current and changing trends, techniques, methods, and research in the field of neuropsychology and psychological therapy treatments by attending learning workshops and professional seminars, reading journals, attending in-service workshops, external conferences in area of specialty/clinical discipline, etc.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION
- PH.D in clinical psychology or neuropsychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited clinical psychology program
- American Psychological Association (APA) accredited 2 year internship program
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Two years post-doctoral experience as a clinical neuropsychology fellow
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS - REQUIRED
- PSY - Psychologist - State Licensure -- Licensure from the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (TSBEP) to practice in the state of Texas
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
- Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
- Knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations and standards pertaining to the provision of psychological services
- Ability to effectively communicate medical information, test results, diagnosis and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood
- Knowledge of psychological counseling techniques, educational development test administration and interpretation, and interviewing and psychosocial/developmental assessment skills required
