Houston Methodist is thrilled to announce that we have reached yet another remarkable milestone, thanks to our nurses and employee community. Last week, MIT Sloan Management Review published a “Nursing Satisfaction Index,” which measured how nurses at 200 of the largest healthcare employers in the U.S. rate the employee experience.
The Nursing Satisfaction Index was based on an analysis of 150,000 Glassdoor reviews, all written by nurses working at healthcare organizations since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic through June 2023. The Index authors evaluated each review to determine whether nurses spoke positively or negatively about topics regarding employee satisfaction. Of the several topics considered, compensation, workload, toxic culture, and feelings of organizational support emerged as the most critical factors in shaping nurses’ overall job satisfaction. After identifying 200 of the largest healthcare organizations, the Index authors evaluated nurses who rated their employers and senior leadership, which also factored into the final index scores.
Thanks to our hardworking staff, supportive culture, and dedicated Nursing teams, Houston Methodist sits at the top spot on the list, tied with Ann Arbor’s Michigan Medicine, having both received an overall index rating of 1.7. Final employer scores were displayed as a standard deviation above or below the average for all 200 employers assessed, with hospitals and health systems rated on a five-point scale.
